talk (비격식) 상대가 있는 대화

speak (격시)

 

<Today's Situation>

A: Hey, can you talk right now.

B: Sure. What did you want to talk about? (과거형이 좀 더 부드럽게 대화하는 느낌)

A: Oh, I wanted to talk to you about our project.

B: Oh! Hey, I'm so sorry. My mom's calling me. Can I call you right back?

A: Okay, talk to you soon.

 

<Pattern & Expression Practice>

We talked about a lot of things in the car. - What did you two talk about?

I don't want to talk about it. / I don't feel like talking about it.

We need to catch up! - I know! We have so much to talk about.

Did you talk to him? / Have you talked to him?

 

Don't talk back to me! - Don't talk to her that yay. That's rude.

He talks too much. - Yeah, he's all talk.

Hey, I need to talk to you about ~ . / Can I have a word with you? 

Let's talk about it over beer. / Let's discuss it over beer.

 

<김교포 & 로라's tip>

- speak는 '능력'을 이야기할 때 씀.

He can't speak.

He can't talk. 

She can speak four languages fluently.

Can you speak a little louder? I can't hear you.

 

- speak/talk는 '~에 대해 말하다' 공히 사용. 격식/공손함이 요구되는 상황에서는 speak

We have two guest speakers today. - What are they going to speak on?

Have you guys talked about getting married? - Yeah, we spoke about it.

 

- speak는 말하는 사람에게, talk는 사람들이 같이 대화하는 것에 초점.

He spoke about[on] the importance of marketing.

I want to talk to you about the importance of marketing.

 

I will be speaking on effective English learning today. (격식, 나에 초점)

I'm going to talk about effective English learning today.(친근함)

 

I want to speak with your manager.

Can you put her on the phone? I want to talk to her!

speaking of ~ ~ 얘기가 나와서 그런데..
